In the Engadin, you can feel nature in every breath — the crisp air, sparkling mountain lakes, and unspoiled landscapes.
For us, sustainability isn’t just a requirement. It’s an attitude you feel the moment you arrive — a feeling that makes your stay special and one you’ll want to share. Because at Nira Alpina, we live sustainability every day — guided by our five pillars:
Environment · Mobility · Social Responsibility · Regionality · Management
ENVIRONMENT
We care deeply about the environment. As a ski-in/ski-out hotel located right next to the Corvatsch mountain railway, we offer our guests a vacation that is in harmony with nature. We prioritize proper waste separation and dispose of both organic waste and PET bottles separately. Whenever possible, we use glass bottles and refillable dispensers. Additionally, the hotel is equipped with motion-sensor lights in almost all areas. In the future, we also plan to use even more recycled paper when printing our brochures.
MOBILITY
For us, mobility means both convenience and environmental awareness. Whether it’s the free shuttle service from the St. Moritz train station, the charging stations for electric cars, or the mountain railways and electric buses in the region: we make it easy for our guests to travel sustainably while enjoying the beauty of the Engadin. In the future, we would like to promote travel by public transportation even more, as well as make our guests aware of the SBB “Luggage Special” promotion.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
For us, sustainability also encompasses social responsibility. We train and support our employees and collaborate with local partners and projects. For example, we partner with the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons on the “Sustainable Tour” program. It is important to us to retain employees for multiple seasons—this will remain a key priority in the future as well.
REGIONALITY
For us, regionality means that our guests can experience the culture and diverse products of the Engadin firsthand. That’s why we place great importance on using regional products — whether at the breakfast buffet, in our restaurants’ kitchens, or in our linens. And of course, the Engadin nut cake from our in-house bakery is a must. We also place great importance on participating in traditional local events, such as the Festa Granda on August 1 or the Chalandamarz — a traditional spring custom in the canton of Graubünden that takes place annually on March 1.
MANAGEMENT
Sustainability is firmly embedded in our corporate culture. As part of “Swisstainable – Level II engaged,” the sustainability campaign by Switzerland Tourism, we focus on resource-efficient processes, regional products, and the active involvement of our employees. Through our own “Sustainability Champions” project, we actively solicit suggestions from all employees, and guest feedback is also specifically incorporated into our ongoing development. Our goal is to further strengthen and expand sustainable thinking within our operations over the long term.
